What to expect…

It can be difficult to go into a new space and trust someone with your hair. I put together this guide to give you a better idea of what to expect during your first visit, to make it easier for both of us!

Before you get here…

Let me know your preferences.

If you’d prefer a quiet appointment (minimal chit-chat) or a masked visit, you can add that on as an option when you book, or just let me know when you come in.

Gather references.

Do you have pictures of hair you like? Bring them! It doesn’t have to be limited to your hair type, I’d like to know your ideal style and what you like in general. They don’t have to be about hair either. Like the color of a leaf? Have a favorite outfit? Bring a picture!

Confirm your appointment.

You will get an automated appointment reminder before your visit so you can confirm. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know more than 24 hours in advance.

Running late?

You can text or call me at (413) 402-0131. If it’s ten minutes past your start time and I haven’t heard from you, I’ll try to get in touch. If you’ll be more than 15 minutes late, we may have to reschedule or adjust what can be done during your appointment, depending on how much time you have reserved.

When you arrive…

Parking

There is a free town lot a block down from the salon across from the theater (pull in next to the Salad Bar). There are also meters on the street that take quarters.

Greeting

We do not have a front desk, so I will be there to greet you when you arrive. We'll take a moment to get you settled, get a drink, use the restroom, whatever you need. If you're getting a color service, there are drapes to change into right next to the restroom, so we won't risk getting color on your clothes.

Consult

Then we’ll chat about your hair and your goals. Some good things to think about: when did you love your hair the most? Is there anything you don’t like about it right now? Are you looking for a big change, or just a tweak?

Cleanse & Condition

I’ll cleanse you with the best match for your hair type, do a metal detox treatment if you need it, then let your conditioner soak in with a hot towel to give you (and your hair!) a chance to replenish. 

If we’re doing a color and your hair doesn’t need a pre-treatment, I may apply color first, then cleanse.

Cut and/or Color

Then I get down to business. I'll check in with you during the service to make sure you're OK with how it's going, but please speak up at any time if you feel nervous or unsure. I do hair all day, so I can forget how nerve-wracking sitting in the chair can be!

Style

I’ll show you how to create a great, easy look for your day-to-day life. This usually means applying product, setting it up to diffuse (which is the closest thing to air-drying) and then styling while encouraging and working with your natural texture, giving you tips and tricks along the way. The idea is you will walk out with fabulous hair, but in a way that you can do yourself as well.

And finally…

I will give you recommendations for a hair routine, as well as a suggested timeline to return. We don't sell products in the salon, but I’ll provide affiliate links so you can shop online at your own convenience.

When we’re done, I will charge the credit card you have on file. (Remember, no gratuity!) So you don't have to worry about bringing cash or any additional charges, and can just walk out with your new fabulous hair!
